Worked my ass off without much support

Posted by aaron at July 17, 2011

I worked my ass off without much support for the last year and a half to get into graduate school to serve others. I did everything I could, sacrificing my social life, sacrificing everything to go to NYU. I got in and started classes, and learned I cannot afford it even with loans even with my minimal family support and mom's love. Life sucks, you work so hard to help others, and it is for nothing. You cannot even help yourself. My school is to expensive to pay and my aunts and uncles and relatives would rather keep their rich lifestyles then help me at all. I cannot follow my dreams to serve others as of now, and need to change my entire life around, because no one cared to support my ambition of service. Paying back 300000 of loans at 20 k of interest is too high, and it will take me 7 years to complete a PhD. 1 year and a half down the drain, and I cannot serve god or others. I am pissed off as fuck, and hate life. Today is my birthday, fuck life

Yes your dream may be on hold for now, but don't give up on it. Try to get a job with a company that will offer tuition reimbursement, get a job at a university and have them cover your tuition, become an escort, or something. Just don't give up. Where there's a will there's a way, eventhough it may take you longer than you expected to reach your goals, you can still reach them. Good luck.

Maybe you should shop around for different programs. Why does it have to be NYU??? Most (if not all) graduate programs offer assistantships...especially for a more advanced degree. A Master's degree is a dime a dozen, but for a ph.d, a university has to invest ALOT of time, money, and energy into you (and yes they want to see some returns i.e. you teach). I am becoming a medical doctor (which is ALOT more expensive, and there is little to no financial assistance and less time to have a part-time job...so loans, loans, loans!!!). To put it simlpy: Where there is a Will, there is a Way

Count yourself lucky that you discovered you couldn't afford the tuition before you got saddled with enormous debt and ruined the rest of your life trying to pay it back. Too many students find out the hard way.

Why do you think that your aunts, uncles, and other relatives should pay for your education? That you are entitled to their money?

You can find a way to help others, if that's what your real intention is, that you can afford, but it will take some searching and contemplation and flexibility on your part. There are many paths to take. Find the one right for you.
