Heading Nowhere Fast

Posted by anonymous at March 2, 2012
Tags: 2012 March  Unemployment

I currently live in New York City and due to the shit economy can't find a job anywhere. My best friend stopped talking to me and gave me a ridiculous excuse as to why. My girlfriend and I broke up because she wants to sleep with someone else (we live in different states by the way). I can't attend college because I'm not eligible for financial aid and have no other means to pay for classes.

To top this all off my mother, who I live with, wishes to leave the city and move to Florida by the end of June. She doesn't want to leave me knowing I'm unable to fend for myself. Also my aunt has fallen ill and needs serious surgery which she will be undergoing Tuesday.

All I want is to attend college and eventually become a teacher. With the way things are going I'm thinking of leaving home and drifting with all my options running down.

Scholarships, Loans, ASK ASK ASK!
Any college will WANT you to attend, even if you dont have the financial means it's worth taking out a loan given your circumstance.

Fastfood, it's dirty. It's greasy. but if you keep pluggin' along you might get something and it's better than not having a job at all right? I work in fastfood and it certainly isn't a glorious job and the hours are dismal, but at least I get a paycheck of some sort rather than bringing in 0 income.

Apply like mad, send in multiple applications each month. TALK with the manager, ask for him or her when the store isn't busy. You'd be surprised.

I can't believe my work actually hired me in this poor economy, given the sheer # of people looking for jobs I went in in the interview nervous the first time, and the 2nd time I went in overdressed, sweating like mad from the heat (I live in Fl) I even lied about prior work exp in an effort to not make it look like I had never held a job hahaha

Surprisingly I was hired and I never got fired, even tho the Manager for a while started pushing 3 hour WEEKS on me I think in an effort for me to quit. I refused, and delt with it. Eventually he realized I wasn't going anywhere and I was getting better at my job which he con't deny and he gave me a bit more hours. Now with a new manager there who is nice & pretty fair, I still have a low but more decent # of hrs per week. Lol I went from 3 for a while, and now I'm avging 15 hrs per week.

One word: Loans. Just do it! Live the life of your dreams, and take out the loans to make it happen! Every penny spent on education is worth it, just make it happen and do it NOW!

Loans are not the answer....not for a teacher. Consider focusing getting a job at a college - pretty much any college for teacher. Most schools will offer tuition for employees...so you work and get paid to go to school essentially. Look at programs like Teach for America.
