cant find job, despite looking hard for one. had a few interviews, but having a degree doesnt make up for lack of experience. I need a job that pays enough for me to survive.

i am depressed and there is nobody i can turn to. im stuck online trying to get help and attention. my real friends do not give a damn. when i want to kill myself i text someone or try to call. either nobody replies or they talk to me for a little while, then say bye. one friend started talking to me about god and i said god didnt exist because of all of the bad things that have happened. he did not like that i said that and stopped texting me.

my car broke down also, its my only livelihood, its my transportation. now i have to put money i dont have into fixing it.

nobody speaks to me or treats me like i am human, like i even exist. i stay inside most days unless im out looking for a job. i try to save gas money when my car was working.

my boyfriend neglects me and goes days without speaking to me. he has no clue that things have gotten so difficult and just accuses me of cheating on him.

life sucks, i wish it could get better. i've tried to make it better, but nothing is happening. i truly would like to die, im sick of crying.

Hey, exact same situation here. No work, despite having a diploma (this lack of experience is killing me every time i hear it after i fail an interview), no friends any more, some of them work and don't have time or prefer to go out with their collegues, some of them are just too happy for me, they want to party all the time and i'm really not in the mood, so i stay at home most of the time alone, i only go out if an interview comes like you do. No mood for love or getting in a serious relationship at the moment, i mean, i can't even stand myself right now. I'm running out of money, well, savings can't last forever can they? So i'm pretty much in the same f---ing situation that you are.
I would recommend you to real this book from paulo coelho, called 'Veronica decides to die'. Ofcourse it won't solve your problems but it will make you feel psychologically better. I mean, that's what happened with me after reading it!
Things will be alright someday, just don't give up now!

A clue about job hunting. If you do not have a college degree or enough experience, you are told that you are unqualified. If you have both a college degree and experience, you are told that you are overqualified. Most interviewers these days just interview people, when no job openings exist, just to look busy so that they are not seen as useless. Some employers ask technical questions to get free advice from prospective employees when no job openings exist. The real truth is that employers want people who work for minimum wage or less. Illegal immigrants find jobs easily because their income is not reported to the tax collector. For the short term, create your own way to earn money, "cash only" and do not report this income to a tax collector. The money you pay in taxes is used to outsource your job to another country, sucker! Those jobs outsourced to India are outsourced from India to China. All of the tax money which goes for "Federal Economic Stimulus" are used for crappy, temporary service jobs, not manufacturing jobs.
We are all screwed.
We are all screwed.

Hey at least you had some interviews. I've been applying for months and I've received no phone calls. The sad and sickening truth is that managers are stupid. They don't actually review experience. I would know because my job last year decided to replace me with some idiot I knew from my old high school who had no experience with the job. By old high school I mean "High school I left for another High school that was far more superior." So you have unexperienced workers with a lower education replacing the experienced workers who have a higher education and are capable of thinking independently??? To me it sounds like these managers only care about control over their employers. I did my job correctly but not only that I did things that would benefit the customers but it was against store policy. So...what does it come down to? The department rules or the customers happiness? I don't think it is ethical to watch an old lady try to load her car with a 50 lbs object while the retarded lot crew is on break...

I mostly agree. Managers are stupid (but clever enough to keep their jobs). Experienced workers get more pay and benefits and therefore are less valuable than a trainee (who works cheap). Managers hate independent thinkers.
However, rules on lifting heavy objects are important. Back injuries, for lifting objects which weigh over 25 lbs., against OSHA regulations, are more common than you may know. It is very expensive for an employer to make disability payments to employees who intentionally violate safety rules. As for the old lady, you should have told her to wait until a qualified person is available to help her. If she refuses to wait, let her get a back injury for being stupid.

And then the other thing is that you never get tha job that really satisfies you. Most of us have jobs that we really hate, we're just doing them to have a salary and pay the bills, but every day we wake up to go for work we feel like the most miserable and pathetic human beings of the world, ending up with a life we hate. And there are of course those who don't even get a job they don't like, and have to live with their parents till their early 30ies. God, the economy we live in. And to the 3rd anonymous guy, hey, what's the point in getting invited to some interviews when they finally eliminate you and hire some other dude? I mean yeah, it gives you hope if they invite you, but believe me, after you fail 5 times within one month you're nothing but happy. You feel you're useless and that this society doesn't need you. The ideal for me, would be to work with Hawaiian Airlines as cabin crew. But they want you to speak fluently one of the following languages (chinese, japanesse, korean, spanish). I speak German on a professional level but for them it's a useless language, so i have to learn one of those languages(spanish i guess), to apply for this job. Just wondering why life sucks for young qualified people right now? It shouldn't....
By anonymous at 22,May,10 13:53

Why does life suck for young qualified people? Look at who is in elected office. Vote the bums out. The recession was caused by the housing bubble. The housing bubble was caused by laws that taxed everything but mortgage interest. Housing was the only valuable asset that was not excessively taxed and became a good investment. Then two years of sub-prime mortgages, caused by laws that forced banks to make loans to people who could not pay them back: hence, the name "sub-prime". The economy was finally pushed over the edge by excessive energy prices by oil companies.
The recession was planned, but not by our elected officials, but by the puppeteers who pulled their strings.
Watch out for the next shoe to drop: the derivatives market (hedge funds, etc.) are teetering on the brink of collapse.

Jobs are hard to find for a 16 year old. Most places preefr to hire people over the age of 18. The best thing you can do is apply to as many places as possible. You'll have to really play the numbers game. My first job was in a pizza restaurant and they were pretty good about hiring 16 year olds. The job was also a lot more fun than I thought it would be. Since you are still in high school, I wouldn't recommend working more than 10-15 hours a week. You might be able to get a job in a supermarket as a bagger until you have enough experience to make cashier.
