So, my now fiance and I started living together after we started dating 3 years ago. We had already been really close friends for a long time previous to this, so it wasn't as if I met a man at the bar and immediately moved in with a stranger. My family is very religious (most of the reason as to why I am not), and they were absolutely appalled that I would commit such an atrocity--living with a man before marriage. They've been insanely angry and passive aggressive with me since we moved in together. Since then, we've both gotten better jobs, are paying for our own college, and have a pretty solid plan for our future. We actually got engaged only 6 months after we started dating. However, my family was so mad at me for "living in sin", that they wouldn't even discuss marriage plans...Does anyone else see the confusion here? I've tried for the past 3 years to convince them to help us plan a wedding; I felt that years down the road we might all regret it if I eloped...So, with the help of my family, I can't get married, because I live with a man and I'm not married....????? Meanwhile, my fiance's sister lives with an ex-con who can't even leave the county due to his parole (this current parole being for not showing up to a hearing about his not paying child-support), and my future-in-laws don't throw as big of a fit as mine do about something that's actually beneficial for me?? I can't understand...... | |
