It's the little things...

I work as a Paramedic on 24 hour shifts out of a station, like a fire department does. We used to have regular partners until we dropped one of our positions, and now we sort of rotate who we work with. My regular partner, we'll call him Jake, is basically who I think of as my 'best friend'.

Well, we have a lady who works here who's dumb as a rock and has some very irritating character traits. I've been partnered with her for several shifts now. Jake is with someone else and they keep doing the things we used to do together during our free time, like going to have coffee, going to dinner with Jake's wife, etc...and I don't get to go.

I asked him what he was doing for dinner tonight and tried to suggest we all put in for a shift dinner. He said that he and Megan were going to dinner with his wife, and that "I wasnt invited". He didn't seem very serious, but it wasn't quite all joking either.

I don't socialize very much outside of work. I go to college, but I don't know anybody there, and I can't really seem to make any friends...I've never really fit in anywhere. So to come to work here and have people who like me being around, who I have a good time was like finally having real friends. But then this happens, and all the problems that I thought were gone come right back to haunt me.

I try to tell myself that he was just teasing me because I'm partnered with the annoying lady. But then, I can't help feeling that a real friend would invite me along regardless.

Maybe I've been wrong. I don't really have a friend. I'm just Brian, and I'm alone, and who would want me around anyways. I've been replaced and that's that. He said we were going to go rock climbing this year, and take our ladies out to dinner, and stuff. But maybe not now...he hasn't mentioned it in a while.

I see people at college walking after class along the beach, playing frisbee on the field. Eating lunch together. Having fun at school events. I wish I knew how it all worked.

I wish I knew what I did wrong to lose my friend.

what goes around comes around! you calling your partner dumb etc when shes probably the only nice one to be a real friend to you and you are rejecting her cause you call her dumb.
Thats why you dont deserve friends asshole.

By anonymous at 09,May,12 12:48

if shes dumb then you are dumber!
how can you not know what you did to make you loose your friends dimwit!
look at your personality towards that lady... you dumber than a rock

I think that lady you work with goes on this site… and posts multiple comments.

do not think that because you don't have college friends, that this is the reason why you're "destined" to not have friends at work. WRONG!!! people go through friendships ALL the time, for all sorts of reasons. plus it is easier to be friends with people at work than college because you seem the same people every day at work! try to cheer up, join a club at school, do something nice for yourself. you will make other friends. your ex partner does not seem like a good friend, it may have started out that way but he is not worth the time anymore. he seems fake. on to the next friend!

Get a hooker, party hardy and don't forget to get real stoned.

Why does everyone here not seem to have a sympathetic vein left? Has reality really left us that numb?

Brian, I feel you, because I've experienced my own kind of betrayal from a former best friend as well. I know it's something you'll never forget, but give it some time to ease. It'll get better. You'll see.

Meanwhile, don't forget that you have to take some initiative yourself instead of relying on others to make the first move. I remember that as the new kid who had just moved across states, I wanted friends badly but couldn't seem to reach out to anyone. My not having friends was my own fault, but I didn't realize it at the time.

So go up to someone and just say hi. It doesn't have to be anything very substantial, so long as you do it. Good relationships take time, so give it time.

Good luck!

Have you tried talking to people? Its pretty hard to make new friends if you dont meet anybody new. You might wanna try focusing a little less on the pain of getting rejected and more on the pain of being lonely for the rest of your life if you dont start taking some action towards making a few more connections with people.

And you are a paramedic? What would you do if a serious triage with split second timing was needed? On your job you worry about high school shit like that. What do you think this is a story line from the show " Rescue Me" Get fucking real you hind tit sucking whining dirty filthy cocksucker. I don't give two shits what you do in your pathetic off time, but when you are behind that wheel you need to be at 100%. You should get your mouth intibated with your friends cock. I just don't believe this garbage.

Thanks for the honorable metonin. I actually learned a few things while designing the cards. Experimenting with widescreen and mirroring. Which I\'ve been attempting through direct input of values. Question: In the text file, what purpose do the and tags serve? Thanks! No particular order:* NGpm\'s Deck of Wondrous Things: Love the nod to The Princess Bride * PapaKrok\'s High Priestess : Missed the reference at first; a great design regardless* HammerKnight\'s Queen of Hearts\' Court : The underscore on the 9 was a nice detail to an epic picture* Kaldath\'s Tarot: Patience that I just don\'t have* Kaylin\'s King of Diamonds: The pose and facial expression give it great attitude* Kytana\'s Card: Well-composed, the complementary nature of the characters* MartianBlue: Again, thanks for the honor. (I used to be battery-powered, but saved enough E.P. to buy off that Limitation!) ;9* MScat\'s Clubs: Trippy* Myro\'s Darryl Heater: Very convincing* Newerlie\'s Queen: Mmmm goth chicks* Trekkie\'s Soldiers: They have a uniform appeal; very consistent* Vanja: You beat me to it!* Zahalee\'s PokerFace: Another convincing realistic design* Everyone I forgot to metonin: For sharing. Don\'t stop, don\'t be discouraged.
